Game Audio Mentoring

If you are a student or starting out in the games industry, you may have found it’s quite a tricky career to get into!

It can be really overwhelming putting together a showreel and website, applying for jobs, figuring out where to network, how to network, and how to freelance; all while you’re learning new softwares. At least, that was my experience a few years ago!

If you would like any feedback on showreels or tracks, if you have any audio-related questions, or if you want advice on getting into the game or film audio industries, please get in touch! Whether you’re after a few back-and-forth emails or an in-depth video call, I’m happy to help – for free – in any way I can!

SERVICES

PORTFOLIO REVIEWS

Are you working on your website, CV, showreel, games, films, or re-designs and would like some feedback? I would be more than happy to check it out, provide constructive criticism, and help it sound as awesome as it can.

WHERE (AND HOW) TO NETWORK

I was a very shy teenager and it was a challenge for me to get into networking, but 100% worth it. If you would like ideas on how to find useful networking events, or how to actually network when you get there I’ll let you know what worked for me!

INDUSTRY ADVICE

Are you interested in working in audio but don’t know where to start? Ask me any questions and I’ll do my best to share what I’ve learnt.

ANYTHING ELSE

When I was starting out I received so much help and great advice from the audio community – I don’t know where I would be without it. I’m still fairly new to the industry so won’t be able to answer everything, but I’d love to give back to the community and help in any way I can. Whatever your question, I’ll do my best to answer it or point you in the direction of someone who can.

One Minute Mentor

Digital Schoolhouse has created a fabulous career resource called One Minute Mentor; a selection of short YouTube videos created by various game developers who work in different game development disciplines. We talk about what our role entails, how we got into it, advice we’d give to others, and so on. You can see my video below! I talk about my current work as a Sound Designer with Soundcuts but make sure to check out the whole YouTube playlist. It’s great for learning about other game development positions and what you may be interested in!

TESTIMONIALS

I first met Lewis at a networking event he organised. He immediately took me under his wing and has helped me and guided me along my path. Through lots of advice, introductions to people, and his supportive friendship he has helped me find my footing in the game industry.

Greg Lester

Lewis has been instrumental in my pathway to the music industry. He has provided hours of advice, critical analysis of my showreels, and tips on finding work and networking throughout the industry which has ultimately lead me to a job. He has taught me how to respect and break boundaries within sound design when suitable, how to create a showreel that stands out amongst the competition, and given brilliant insight on to the world of audio editing and design; this is especially impressive when you consider the relaxed, genuine, and sincerity of his character which is reflected when teaching.
